HELLENIC AGRICULTURAL ORGANIZATION – DIMITRA

ELGO-DIMITRA is the national body responsible for the agricultural research and technology in Greece

ELGO-DIMITRA is the national body responsible for the agricultural research and technology in Greece. The main object of ELGO-DIMITRA is the development and support of actions aimed at the modernization and development of the country’s agricultural sector, the improvement of production processes, the strengthening of competitiveness, the certification of agricultural products & food quality, the establishment and certification of agricultural good practices and controls in the production-distribution chain of milk and meat in the country.

The Research Institute of Animal Science (RIAS) established in 1955 is part of General Directorate-Agricultural Research within Hellenic Agricultural Organization-DIMITRA (ELGO-DIMITRA) that supports research in the area of livestock production science The Institute’s aim is to produce high-quality research in all individual aspects of animal science by participating in more than a 100 national and international research programs. The mission is to develop research, inform and educate farmers on new farming methods and techniques, provide information on farm animals and the proper use and management of feed materials, on genetic material selection and breeding management, for livestock and livestock equipment, etc. In addition, the Institute aims in evolving the management practices that are a prerequisite for the welfare of the farm animals, the increase in their productivity and, consequently, the improvement of the economic result of the farmers. RIAS places a high priority on knowledge transfer and has a close working relationship with the farming industry.
